SAN AGUSTIN - BEACH OF LAS BURRAS

Located in one of the most emblematic areas in the south of Gran Canaria, San Agustin is the perfect refuge for those looking for beautiful beaches in a relaxed atmosphere. Norcopia is close to Playa de las Burras, a perfect spot for those looking to relax by the sea. And just a few minutes’ walk away is the San Agustin Shopping Center where you have access to a variety of restaurants and supermarkets.

Known for its tourist history that began in the 1960s, San Agustin has traditionally been a favorite destination for Northern European tourists, especially the Swedish community. Its warm and stable year-round climate attracted the attention of visionary entrepreneurs, including architect Fritz Stenberg who built Norcopia in 1970. Fritz, along with other Scandinavian entrepreneurs and urban planners, saw the enormous potential of the area and set out to develop a tourist destination that would offer sun, tranquility and comfort for northern European travelers.

In collaboration with local investors and Canarian authorities, they spearheaded a development project that would transform San Agustín into the first planned tourist center in the south of Gran Canaria.

The project was a success. Soon, charter flights from Sweden began to fill the hotels and apartments in San Agustín. In the 1970s and 1980s, the area established itself as the preferred destination for Swedes in the Canary Islands, and many of them decided not only to vacation here, but also to buy properties and settle here permanently. The area continues to be a special place for both Swedish tourists and Canarian residents who spend their summers in San Agustín.
